ABOUT HUBERT

I was born and raised in South Africa, where I trained as a classical ballet dancer from a young age and danced with the CAPAB Ballet Company before moving to the UK in 1993 to join the Royal Ballet Company. I first discovered Pilates after sustaining an injury, allowing me to fully rehabilitate and thereafter condition my body to meet the rigorous demands of a career in both classical and contemporary dance, spanning twenty years, later applying this knowledge to my work as a teacher and choreographer.

When I left the stage, I trained with Alan Herdman, a distinguished Pilates master trainer , and went on to instruct both ballet and Pilates at various studios over the course of ten years before establishing my own studio in South London in 2022. I continue to teach ballet at the Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, and work with English National Ballet.

My approach to teaching Pilates is based on the key principles of the Pilates method i.e use of breath, mind and body connection, control and precision of movement that connects three dimensional movement exploration with ease and flow of functional movement.
